Today I wanted to share a couple of summer "beat the heat" tips from one of our website viewers. The SPCA is sharing this ideas only for informational purposes, and is not necessarily recommending these tips. Always seek advice from your veterinarian if you ever have any questions or concerns regarding your pet.
Tips:
"I used to drive an older car that did not have A/C. When I had to take a cat to the veterinarian, I would take one of those freezer packs for picnic coolers, wrap it in a dish towel, and tuck it into the car carrier, so the cat would have its own cooling system.
And on really hot days, before I had A/C in the house, I spread a large (trash-size) plastic bag on the floor. Then I take a thick bath towel, rinse it in cold water and wring it out, and lay it on the bag. The cats will come and lay next to it, with their paws on the towel. I used to have a Maine Coon, and she would lay her whole furself right on the damp towel to cool off."
Interesting tips, and we'd love to hear what others have found to be successful in keeping their pets cool during the dog days of summer. Simply post a comment here and we'll share some of your ideas.
