Who We Are

The Chemung County Humane Society and SPCA, Inc. is a private, non-profit humane organization. Since 1891, the Chemung County SPCA has been the only not-for-profit organization devoted to the care of the stray, homeless, abused and abandoned animals of Chemung County.

In fact, more than 75 percent of our operating budget depends entirely on contributions from our community. We are not a county agency, or state affiliation, but are funded by donations, bequests, fees and dog control contracts with Chemung County and most of the townships in Chemung County.

Our Mission

To enhance the quality of life for companion animals in Chemung County and surrounding areas.

Our Vision

The Chemung County Humane Society & SPCA envisions a time when loving and lifelong homes will be provided for all homeless companion animals in our community.

Euthanasia Policy

It is the policy of the Chemung County Humane Society and SPCA, Inc. that no adoptable or treatable animal should be euthanized if it can be adopted into a suitable home.

The Chemung County Humane Society and SPCA, Inc. does not put a time limit on how long an animal will be housed at the shelter. Euthanasia at the Chemung County Humane Society and SPCA, Inc. is done as rarely as circumstances will allow and is a decision never taken lightly.

All staff members involved in the euthanasia process are expected to perform this responsibility in a humane and respectful manner with compassion toward the animals.
